GateChain Academic Research

The major innovation of GateChain is that it put forward and implemented an on-chain “Vault Account”. This type of account has safety features allowing for the revocable transaction and damaged private key restoration, thus providing a novel blockchain safety solution to individuals, enterprises and asset sensitive banks. Research shows that by linearly adding the revocable delay time or cascaded vault accounts, the safety performance increases exponentially. In practice, Vault Account essentially solves the safety problems in on-chain trading and management for individuals and banks.

GateChain Research Papers

GateChain currently has 1 published paper and 2 completed research papers. All the papers will be available to view when they are published. Stay tuned.

On January 30th, 2020, the first academic thesis of GateChain in the field of cryptography named “Gatechain — RTM: Blockchain That Supports Revocable Transaction Model” was released on the arXiv platform.

As one of the most revolutionary technologies, blockchain has huge development potential. And a distributed ledger, an important application of a blockchain, can effectively record the trading history in users’ accounts. However, in many typical application scenarios, it is necessary to revoke incorrect operations caused by user misoperation, hacking, etc. Unfortunately, users often blur the lines between the concept of “revocable transaction state” and “revocable business status”. The technology is still limited, which results in that revocable transactions are not universally supported in blockchain s at present.

This paper proposes GateChain: a sound, diversified and innovative blockchain that supports revocable transaction model (RTM) on a distributed ledger to prevent the loss of assets from a users’ misoperation and hacking. Specifically, based on state-of-the-art technology, Gatechain can safely withdraw the users’ misoperations on the accounts. On that basis, Gatechain strives to exploit and improve the functions to provide a comprehensive, secure and concise environment for users. An even more academic thesis will be coming to prove GateChain’s contributions to front-tier researches and industrial technologies.

GateChain Mainnet Architecture

At its early stage, GateChain mainnet implemented its Vault Account model based on a UTXO underlying architecture and finished prototype verification. The work has been adopted in the industry and formed a research paper “Research and Study of Vault Account based on UTXO Model”(Pending publishing)

Later, to support better compatibility in cross-chain ecosystem, Gatechain migrated to a blockchain underlying architecture built on top of Tendermint. The new architecture leverages account models directly. With innovation on upper protocols, it focuses on implementing Vault Account allowing for revocable transaction and clearing features. It has also developed the DEX settlement features. In the application layer, the new architecture supports standard interfaces that can meet various demands from upper layer applications and it also offers offline account generation and transaction singing libraries using SDK, providing convenient developer tools for third-party ecosystem applications development.
